Buildings

Cabins
These twelve cabins are used on a year-round basis for all programs. Each is insulated and heated. These rustic buildings are equipped with bunk beds, which can sleep up to ten. Each cabin has a cedar deck outside the front door.

Washrooms
It is large washroom, heated with radiant floor heating, and boasts many fixtures and plenty of hot water. .

Day Camp Cabins (summer)
These two cabins are set aside for Day Campers to use to change and to store their things for the day.

Chalet
The chalet has seven motel type rooms which are used for staff in the summer and four rooms are available for speakers and teachers during the rest of the year. Each room sleeps up to four and is fully carpeted. They also contain a three piece bathroom and shelving. A spring garden door provides a beautiful view to the south.

The chalet also features a lounge which is approximately 28' by 15'. It is fully carpeted with a two-piece washroom attached. There are several couches and chairs as well as audio-visual equipment available for use.

During the summer the first aid room is located in the chalet with one bed for isolation purposes.

The chalet has a small laundry room which is available as a service to staff.

Crafts
The crafts room is used in the summer for crafts and is equipped with large tables to work on various projects. It is also used for cross-country skiing in the winter.

Dining Hall
The dining hall is centrally located, has wood flooring, a wood stove for heating in the winter, and displays numerous photos of Medeba's historical journey. Rectangular tables are used and it seats a maximum of one hundred and eighty guests year-round.

Homestead
The Homestead is a renovated home which was originally built in the 1890's. It is the primary meeting and class area for the Leadership Development Program (LDP) for ten months. It has four bedrooms which sleep up to twelve and two three-piece bathrooms. It also includes a large kitchen, a dining room and a living room with couches and chairs and audio-visual equipment.

Chalet 8 and 9
Chalet 8 and 9 are used for staff during the summer months and as speaker and teacher accommodation during the year. It is tastefully designed and fully furnished with beds, dressers, desks, a large closet and a three-piece bathroom.

Lodge
The lodge is approximately 50' by 30'. It is carpeted and features a large stone fireplace. Our indoor climbing wall is located at the west end of the building providing 1000 square feet of climbing which goes up to 22' high. This is an ideal room for larger group meetings. The Lodge also boasts of a 500 square foot deck. Chairs and audio-visual equipment is available for use in this room.

Office
Located near the main entrance, this attractive building is the centre of administration at Medeba. It also contains a small store where Medeba clothing, souvenirs and snacks can be purchased.

Program Building
The program building contains four rooms.

Program Areas

Archery Range
The archery range is safely designed for up to four archers at a time. It is totally fenced in with a large net at the end of the range to stop arrows. It is ideally suited for learning as targets can be easily set up at different distances depending on the skill of the archer. The shooting area is covered with a roof which is also a wonderful feature on hot summer days and can even be used on rainy days.

Beach Volleyball Courts
There are two beach volleyball courts at Medeba. One is located in front of the chalet and one is located at the beach.

Bridge
A spectacular pedestrian bridge was built to connect the main part of Medeba with the waterfront. It is the only one of its kind in all of Haliburton county

Campfire Areas
Theses areas are designed for campfires and cookouts. They include bench seating. Westpoint is the primary campfire area that is used for large groups. It has benches built in an amphitheatre style.

Double Zip Line
A zip line of 700' for a thrilling new activity for our campers, students, and guest groups.

Ice Climbing Tower (winter)
Medeba offers one of the approximately twelve man-made ice climbing structures in North America. It is 40 foot high, set on poles, has 4 climbable sides and a variety of climbs ranging from easy to difficult. We are able to fully outfit groups with equipment.

Low and High Ropes Courses
Low ropes consists of 25 elements primarily used for group and personal development. They are located at various locations throughout the forest. The high ropes course is a series of poles 43 feet high including a rappelling tower and a Giant Swing.

Mountain Biking Area
The mountain biking area consists of a storage shed, a repair shop and a specialized trails area.

Outdoor Climbing Wall
Medeba was one of the first facilities to construct a climbing wall which was built at the same time the first climbing gym was being constructed in Ontario. We have constructed a 40' outdoor climbing tower with 4 climbs ranging in difficulty from beginner to an advanced overhanging climb.

Playround
There are two trampolines, four tetherball courts and a half court basketball court.

Playing Fields
Medeba has several large grass playing fields which are great for sports and games. A baseball diamond is also available.

Riflery Range
The riflery range provides a safe atmosphere for our air rifle program. It is designed just like a professional range with separate shooting stalls for each person. The shooting area is covered with a roof which is also a wonderful feature on hot summer days and can even be used on rainy days.

Trail System
Several kilometers of trails wind their way through much of Medeba's 123 acres. They are used for tractor rides, hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Ski equipment is available for groups.

Snowshoeing Hut (winter) and Woodworking Building (summer)
This building is a dual purpose building for snowshoeing in the winter and woodworking classes in the summer.

Tree House
A large 16' by 16' tree house is built in one of the oldest oak trees on the site which overlooks the lake. The tree house can be used during the day or for cabin groups to sleep in overnight.

Tubing Hill (winter)
Medeba maintains a large tubing run on a hill which used to be a downhill ski area many years ago. It is quite the ride. Tubes are provided.

Waterfront
The waterfront consists of two main areas - swimming and boating. Each area is clearly defined for safety purposes.

The swimming area has a large dock system with two slides and a trampoline. A beach volleyball court and a campfire area are also located in the swimming area.

The boating area has its own dock and raft for canoeing and kayaking lessons.
