Expectations of All Leader In Training Participants
LIT Participants and Their Relationship with God
Leader In Training participants are expected to be developing their relationship with God and to have a desire to live by the standards set forth in the Bible.
LIT Participants and Their Character
Our standard for all behaviour is taken from the Bible – the word of God. LITs are expected to cooperate with others and respect staff members. LITs will treat everyone at Medeba respectfully and not discourage or harm others with physical, emotional, or verbal abuse.
Any kind of abuse or abusive language is not acceptable (e.g. put-downs are unacceptable). Medeba strives to resolve behavioural problems with LITs promptly and effectively but reserves the right to dismiss a LIT for behavioural problems at the discretion of the Directors. No refund will be made for dismissals due to disciplinary action.
Our standard for all attitudes are to have a positive attitude towards the program. There are many different types of activities and sessions in the LIT program and every LIT will be expected to participate in all aspects of the program.
LIT Participants and Their Lifestyle at Medeba
Our standard for all personal electronic devices (such as cell phones or iPod’s) is that they are permitted but are only to be used during a designated period of time each day. Other electronics (such as TVs, monitors, and gaming devices) are not permitted. All media that is listened to or watched must be approved by an LIT staff unless it is produced under a Christian label. Any media should not glorify sin.
Our standard for accommodations is that LITs are responsible to clean their accommodations daily and keep their personal belongings tidy as they are sharing room with others.
Our standard for relationships is that LITs are not to be alone with a person of the opposite gender without being in full view of others.
Our standard for having a dress code is to be modest in our outfits. LITs must wear non-revealing clothing.
Our standard for curfew is that all LITs have a curfew between 9:30-10pm to be in the Hub main room for a daily debrief, between 10:15-10:30pm to be in their own cabin (to get ready for bed), and between 10:45-11pm to have the lights out. Occasionally earlier curfews may be given if staff detect extra sleep is needed.
LIT is limited to a maximum of 18 participants. Separate accommodation for boys and girls is provided in the Hub and a staff member also lives with them. The Hub also has bathrooms and a large meeting room between the boys’ and girls’ accommodations.
LIT Schedules for Parents
A day by day calendar of LIT events is available for parents. Parents may pick these up on registration day or request one to be sent to them ahead of time.
Communication from Home
Phone Calls and Mail
LITs really enjoy connecting with friends and family, especially because they are here for 4 or 8 weeks. You can mail, fax or email a letter to your LIT. A 50¢ charge will be placed against the LITs tuck account for each incoming fax or email.
Address camper mail to:
(full name of LIT),

By Fax: 1-705-754-1530 (Please include full name of LIT on fax)
By Email: firstname.lastname@example.org (Please type the LITs full name on the "subject" line)
Family and friends are welcome to call on our local number to our dining hall (705-754-2444 x231) during meal times or can call or text the LIT directly on their cell phone when appropriate.
And lastly, family and friends are welcome to email to the LITs personal email, which they will have opportunity to check throughout their stay.
Medeba's Open House is a great time to visit LITs, see the site, try some of our activities, and enjoy a complimentary lunch. This year Open House is on Saturday, July 13, 2019.
There are no other designated times for parents to visit LITs at Medeba, but arrangements can be made with the LIT Director to visit or take LITs off property for a break.
LIT Group Picture
LIT group pictures can be ordered prior to camp. These 5" x 7" pictures taken by our camp photographer come in a frame and cost $8.50 (taxes included). Pictures can be paid for when you apply or during registration.
During the month of LIT, we create a cloud based photo album of pictures of the LITs and their activities. These pictures come from the camp photographer and from the LITs themselves to provide a large assortment. Cost is $10.00 (taxes included).
Spending Money While at Medeba
Spending money is needed for several reasons while at Medeba. We recommend that $120 be provided for the month, plus extra if you wish to purchase any souvenirs or clothing.
- Camp Store / Tuck Shop - We call our camp store the Tuck Shop. The camp store offers snacks, souvenirs and quality Medeba clothing. All camp store money is deposited into a debit account for the LITs so they don't have to handle cash until it is needed. Any remaining money at the end of the stay is returned. LITs should not keep money in their cabin.
- Laundry - LITs have the opportunity to do their laundry each week at the local laundromat. The cost for a load of laundry is around $5.00. Participants should bring their own detergent and supplies.
- One meal at a fast food restaurant (LIT 1) - This is to eat out on the way back from the LIT 1 canoe trip. $10 is recommended.
Leaving the Property
LITs may not leave the property without permission and must be accompanied by a staff member. If LIT parents wish to visit or take LITs off property they may do so with permission from the LIT Director.
